Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard has voiced his desire to remain on loan with Birmingham City following one of the most sensational debuts in recent history. The 20 year old recently joined the Blues on a one-month loan, but scored an incredible four goals on his debut for the club over the weekend. Lingard’s four goals gifted Birmingham a 4-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday, propelling them up the Championship table, and the midfielder now wants his one month deal extended.

“It’s a dream come true,” Lingard said after his debut, according to Manchester United’s official website. “To get four goals and three points on my debut is massive.

“I had a lot of pressure on my shoulders but, as soon as the first goal went in, I got more confident. You can’t beat first-team football so, hopefully, they [United] will let me stay for the season.”

Lingard is part of a young generation of United players that has excelled in the club’s youth and reserves system. Lingard, along with Belgian midfielder Adnan Januzaj, is viewed as one of the brightest young talents in England, and has been knocking on the door for first team football after an impressive preseason campaign with the Red Devils. Similarly, striker Federico Macheda recently went on loan to Doncaster Rovers, and scored a brace in his debut over the weekend.

Midfielder Nick Powell, only 19 years of age, appeared for Wigan Athletic during his loan spell this weekend as well, and also managed to pick up a goal for the Latics, capping off an excellent weekend for United loanees.
