Long-time Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson spoke out to hail the performance of Wayne Rooney on Tuesday during the club’s 4-2 victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League. After a summer-long transfer saga between Rooney and Chelsea that saw United reject at least two bids from the Blues with the second estimated to be worth £25 million, Rooney has fallen back into place with United, scoring three times in four appearances in all competitions this season.

Ferguson believes Rooney has gotten back to the form people are used to seeing him in, playing with great determination and directness. The former manager is happy to see Wayne in his current form.

“I thought Wayne was fantastic [on Tuesday]. He’s got his energy back, his determination, his purpose to attack,” Ferguson said, according to Goal.com.

“Being a director, I’m delighted to see that. He’s back to what we always remember.”

Rooney and Dutch striker Robin van Persie have been superb as a tandem for the club so far this season, combining for a total of seven goals early on in the season for United, not including van Persie’s double in the Community Shield to kick off the season back in August. van Persie, Rooney, and United will make the short trip across Manchester to face off against Manchester City at the Etihad on Sunday afternoon in what will surely be an entertaining match.

The man is always class. Still wonder why its only Chelsea that required his services last summer. May others knew ManU WOULD NOT LET GO.
