Stoke run rampant against Liverpool

Stoke City 2-0 Liverpool | Brittania Stadium | Barclays Premier League

By | 13th November 2010

Stoke City comfortably beat Roy Hodgson’s struggling Liverpool side 2-0 in today’s late Premier League kickoff, and the result moves Tony Pulis’ side well out of the relegation zone. Ricardo Fuller and Kenwyne Jones put the Liverpool defense to the sword, and Potters fans are surely delighted at seeing their side leapfrog over Liverpool into tenth in the table.

A long Rory Delap throw caused problems for the Liverpool defense in the second half, and after the ball bounced around the penalty area Stoke striker Ricardo Fuller slotted past a stranded Pepe Reina. Stoke remained confident and in control for large spells of the match, and Jermaine Pennant’s perfect through ball in the final minute of the match put Kenwyne Jones through on goal, and the giant target man coolly slotted past Reina to clinch all three points for the home side.

Things went from bad to worse for Reds boss Roy Hodgson as midfielder Lucas was sent off in stoppage time. The Brazilian lunged into a tackle unnecessarily, and his second yellow card of the match was well deserved.

After looking like they’d rebound from their terrible start to the season, the Reds now find themselves back in the bottom half of the table, twelve points behind league leaders Chelsea.
