Stoke player wants to sign one of Prem’s best

By | 2nd August 2010

Stoke City midfielder Matthew Etherington has called for his club to sign “one of the best strikers in the Premier League.” Etherington was talking about none other than West Ham United’s Carlton Cole, who could face a summer move away from Upton Park given the club’s less than comfortable financial situation.

“If West Ham are willing to let him go, it would be a good move for him to come here,” Etherington told The Sentinel.

“Given the ideas the manager has and the way the club want to push forward, I’d definitely recommend it.

“Coley is a London boy, he’s got a young kid and is settled down there, but he has been this way before on loan at Aston Villa and Wolves.

“It wouldn’t be a problem for him living up here, just as it hasn’t been for me.

“I would tell him it was the best move I could have made. It has helped me no end in pushing my career on.”

Etherington went on to say that Cole is one of the best strikers in the Premier League, a fact that few can dispute after his 10 goal Premiership campaign last term.

“On his day, he’s one of the best strikers in the Premier League. When he’s on it, he’s unbelievable – and I’ve witnessed that first hand at West Ham,” said Etherington.

????? This article Doesn't make sense, west ham's questionable financial position????? probably the same website linking us with Beckham, Henry, Cole & Van nistelroy for 100k per week, do your homework, the 2 davids are worth over 800 million pounds together. "Carlton Cole looked like a grown man playing against twelve year olds today, he was immense" Paul Merson on Carlton Cole last season. twisting Etherington's words and taking the piss, Excellent journalism. I have followed Cole's progress over the past 2 season's and he does have times when he is unplayable, but whoever wrote this rubbish obviously knows better than a proffesion footballer who has worked hands on with him. Well done very entertaining & worthwhile. (sarcasm is a wonderful thing)!!!

    • Not sure what you're on about here, mate. In the article I was simply reporting on what the newspapers are reporting.

And you appear to not have read the part where I said "Etherington went on to say that Cole is one of the best strikers in the Premier League, A FACT THAT FEW CAN DISPUTE…"

I do indeed think he's one of the best strikers in the Prem due to his size, pace, and finishing ability, and was one of the people crying out for him to go to South Africa this summer. And no where did I twist Etherington's words, as I agree with them and we do NOT do that at Premiership Talk.

Please read the articles. I bet most of the time you'll find we're on your side…
