Portuguese Contingent Leaving Stamford Bridge

The transfer rumor mill keeps on churning, and Chelsea fans will get their own taste of some Portuguese players leaving. Cristiano Ronaldo’s impending exit from England is finally happening, and it looks like his two national team teammates from Chelsea could also be leaving English shores. Deco and defender Bosingwa are both subjects of intense speculation, as both players are said to be unhappy with life at Stamford Bridge.

Bosingwa’s rumored suitors are Bayern Munich, with general manager Uli Hoeness confirming that the German club are interested in acquiring the defender’s services. ”Our…

Ballack Continues to be Denied

One of the most talked about incidents towards the end of the controversial Chelsea-Barcelona semifinal in the midweek was the reaction of Chelsea’s German midfielder Michael Ballack as he protested against one of the many refereeing blunders made that night. Ballack raced towards the official and came within inches of getting physical with the infamous Norwegian. While Barcelona fans were still celebrating Andres Iniesta’s shock equalizer, others watched closely as Ballack’s professionalism was put through the most severe of tests.

Generally, as one of my previous articles suggests, a top-flight footballer’s professionalism should remain intact in situations that involve…

Drogba to Real Madrid

The Real Madrid rumor mill is in full flight once again, although this time it’s a Chelsea player that is at the center of the speculation. Eduardo Garcia, who is running for the Real Madrid presidency, has told the media that he has an agreement in place that will bring the Ivorian striker to Spain if he wins the election. This follows a long line of presidential candidates that have made promises, including last summer’s controversial “agreement” between Real Madrid and Cristiano Ronaldo.

While Drogba’s season at Stamford Bridge has been interrupted…

Lampard Makes His Point - Again!

In what is being called, by many UEFA pundits, arguably the most thrilling Champions League quarterfinal in recent memory, Chelsea knocked Liverpool out 7-5 on aggregate. However, the aggregate score is certainly flattering for the Blues, who defended amateurish throughout the second leg at home tonight.

As a result, the Stamford Bridge outfit was within a single goal of elimination on two different occasions during the night. It took one man’s composure to rescue his side not once, but twice. And unsurprisingly, this man was Chelsea’s ever-reliable midfield talisman, Frank Lampard.

I usually…

Is Anelka Worth It?

Nicolas Anelka rejoined Chelsea this week after a three week absence. The question to me is, does it even matter? Do Chelsea even need him? Not only does it even matter, but has Anelka ever been worth his transfer fee or salary when all things are considered?

I’ll answer the first question right now. Chelsea’s 3-1 victory over Liverpool in the Champions League proved to me that Chelsea does not need Anelka to be successful. Didier Drogba is obviously a superstar up front, and the rest of the Chelsea midfield with Lampard,…

Chelsea’s Confidence Grows

While almost all members of the media are tipping Manchester United for a record breaking trophy haul, I can’t help but look towards Guus Hiddink and his Chelsea side and see an obstacle. The Stamford Bridge outfit have only improved since the changing of the guard (Scolari to Hiddink), and with a few key players returning from injury I can’t help but think Chelsea will be amongst the trophies come May.

The catalyst, in my opinion, is Michael Essien. The talismanic midfielder will be the usual workforce that Chelsea fans are familiar…
