Manchester United striker Robin van Persie has been ruled out of tomorrow’s Capital One Cup clash against Liverpool, and according to manager David Moyes he is a doubt for Saturday’s Premier League match against West Bromwich Albion. The Dutch international was a surprise exclusion from United’s derby defeat against Manchester City on Sunday, with Moyes citing a slight groin knock when asked about the striker’s absence before the match.

Now, United have been dealt another blow with van Persie’s fitness as the Red Devils look to bounce back against one of their biggest rivals.

“I don’t think Robin van Persie will play on Wednesday, but he has an outside chance for Saturday,” Moyes told reporters at a press conference on Tuesday, according to ManUtd.com.

While van Persie will be missing for United, Liverpool will receive the biggest boost of their season as striker Luis Suarez returns from his ten match ban. The Uruguayan hasn’t played a minute of action this season after biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic last season, giving Daniel Sturridge a chance to shine so far.

The Reds have already beaten David Moyes’ side once this season in a 1-0 win at Anfield. Luckily for the wounded champions, tomorrow’s match is in front of their home crowd at Old Trafford.
