Wenger talks up Arsenal title chances

Wenger believes the club has a shot at winning the title

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger revealed his belief that Arsenal can challenge for the title this season. After narrowly finishing fourth last season only one point ahead of bitter north London rivals Tottenham, Wenger feels the consistency his side have shown away from home is a testament to their ability to win crucial points and at least stay in the hunt for a first place finish.

Wenger is hoping his players will be able to play as consistently as they have on the road at the Emirates, starting with their match on Sunday against Stoke City. The Gunners have never lost to Stoke at the Emirates, winning all five occurrences the two have had in London.

“If you look at the numbers, away from home we have been remarkably consistent. At home we want to create the same consistency,” Wenger said, according to ESPN.

“I believe we have a chance [to challenge for the title] and what is most important is that my full energy is to make sure we grab that chance. It is too early to say who will be in the fight, who will not be in the fight.

“You are a bit cautious because these days you are very quickly in a crisis. One bad result and everyone questions your potential to be in there, so let’s be consistent. We know the four or five teams who will fight for the title, we know the names.”

The club has been incredibly consistent going back to last season. Arsenal took 26 of a possible 30 points to end last year’s campaign and are currently on a six game winning streak in all competitions since losing their opening match of the season 3-1 to Aston Villa. The Gunners are coming off a hard-fought victory in the Champions League over French side Marseille, winning 2-1 on goals from Theo Walcott and Aaron Ramsey. While Walcott scored his first goal of the season for the club, Ramsey netted his sixth in seven matches as he continued his scintillating start to the season.
