Tottenham midfielder Lewis Holtby spoke out to reveal his determination to earn a regular place in the first team this season after starting last night’s Europa Leagu match. Holtby is hoping for opportunities to show Spurs fans what he can do and demonstrate his abilities on the pitch.

“I want to show what I’m capable of, what I can do, to score as many goals as possible, to have good performance and especially to give the fans a show,” Holtby said, according to talkSPORT.

The 23 year old German U-21 player has been pushed to the fringes at the club after Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas, technical director Franco Baldini, and chairman Daniel Levy spent over £100 million this summer on seven new players. Besides adding defender Vlad Chiriches and striker Roberto Soldado, the club signed midfielders Etienne Capoue, Paulinho, and Christian Eriksen, forward Erik Lamela, and winger Nacer Chadli.

It will be difficult for Holtby to break through to a regular spot as he will also be competing with veteran Tottenham players Sandro, Moussa Dembele, Aaron Lennon, and Gylfi Sigurdsson as well as rising English winger Andros Townsend. Holtby has made only one Premier League appearance for Spurs so far this season, coming on as a substitute against Norwich City last weekend.

Tottenham, however, will play three matches in six days with the first already completed on Thursday night, a 3-0 Europa League victory over Tromso at White Hart Lane. The tight fixture congestion could provide an opportunity for Holtby to show AVB what he’s capable of.
