Manchester City are set to take on Manchester United in the first Manchester derby of the season on Sunday but City manager Manuel Pellegrini will most likely not be starting attacker David Silva or defender Micah Richards, according to Sky Sports. While both are now healthy enough to be on the bench for the crucial early season match between the two title contenders, both are unlikely to see first half action.
Silva picked up a knee injury earlier in September during training while away from Manchester on international duty with Spain. The creative player had a strong start to the season before going down with the injury, starting the first three matches of the year for City and scoring in the season opener. Silva missed City’s match last Saturday due to the injury, a game the Citizens could have used the Spaniard in as they drew 0-0 to Mark Hughes’ Stoke City.
Richards will make his first appearance for the club, however, if he is to get into the match. The 25 year old English defender, who can play at right-back or center-back, has been out with a hamstring injury since the summer. Richards has earned 13 caps for the England national team and will be hoping to regain fitness ahead of the World Cup next summer.
