According to the Metro, Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas may be looking to add to his already deep squad in the January transfer window with the addition of Spanish playmaker Juan Mata. AVB signed the 25 year old to Chelsea when he was at the helm of the Blues back in 2011 and could be hoping to reunite with the player in the coming months.

Tottenham added seven very talented players to the club this summer in the wake of Welsh sensation Gareth Bale’s departure to Real Madrid for a world record £85 million. The additions included winger Nacer Chadli, midfielder Christian Eriksen, and forward Erik Lamela, all players that can offer something similar to Mata, but AVB may still look to sign the Spaniard who does not seem to be a big piece of Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea plans moving forward. Chelsea brought in a number of attack-minded players this summer, with Willian, Andre Schurrle, and Marco van Ginkel joining the squad as well as Kevin De Bruyne returning from a loan, leaving many to speculate about a departure for Mata.

Mata has made three appearances for the Blues this season, starting twice in the Premier League and coming on as a substitute in Chelsea’s shocking 2-1 loss in the Champions League on Wednesday to Swiss club FC Basel. He has yet to score or provide an assist in any of his appearances.
