Gunner praises strong Arsenal defense

Aaron Ramsey lauded improved Arsenal defensive efforts

By | 19th September 2013

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey spoke out to hail Arsenal’s defensive efforts so far this season following their 2-1 win in the Champions League over French side Marseille. Arsenal have only given up three goals in their last six matches in all competitions since losing 3-1 to Aston Villa in their season opener as they have gone on a six-game winning streak. Ramsey believes the team has dramatically improved defensively over the last few years and are starting to see the results now.

“We’ve tried to defend as well as we can as a team,”¬†Ramsey said to¬†

“I feel like the team has grown much stronger in that department over the last couple of seasons. We showed that if we continue to try to play the way that we want to, something will happen in the end.”

Ramsey himself has also seen an improvement in his performances since last year as he already had his highest scoring year in his career, netting six times in seven appearances so far. The Welsh midfielder found the back of the net twice in the Premier League and four times in European play, including Arsenal’s Champions League qualifiers. Ramsey’s last goal was the match-winner for the club in Wednesday’s Champions League victory in France, a match the midfielder was happy to win.

“It was a magnificent win for us to come here and get the three points,” Ramsey told

“We did it a few seasons ago as well. It’s a tough place to come to. The pitch wasn’t the best – it was very sticky and dry and we had to continue to try and play our game. It paid off in the end and we got the win which we’re delighted with.

“It’s vital to get back into the swing of things in the league. We play against Stoke who have changed their style a bit under Mark Hughes. They’ve had a good start to the season so we’ll have to be switched on, get a good recovery in the next couple of days and hopefully get another win in the league.”

Arsenal will host Stoke on Sunday before playing West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday in the Capital One Cup. The club will then travel to Wales to face off against Swansea City next Saturday, a side that drew current league leaders Liverpool 2-2 on Monday.
