Arsenal have seemingly been handed an injury boost ahead of today’s Champions League clash against Marseille, as Germans Mesut Ozil and Per Mertesacker are both in contention for the match after suffering from a flu virus last week. Ozil posted a picture of the pair on the Arsenal plane on the way to Marseille on his personal Twitter page, and their presence will give manager Arsene Wenger a major boost as they seek a win in their first group stage match.

Ozil made his debut for the Gunners on Saturday against Sunderland, helping them win 3-1, but was subbed off after 80 minutes. Mertesacker, meanwhile, didn’t feature for the Gunners due to the flu virus picked up during international duty, so will be a welcome addition to Wenger’s lineup tonight.
The Sunderland match also served as Thomas Vermaelen’s return from injury, as the Belgian made his first appearance of the season after suffering from a lower back injury during the club’s preseason campaign.
Arsenal have been placed into what some believe is this year’s “group of death,” as Group F contains the Gunners, Ligue 1 giants Marseille, Champions League runners-up Borussia Dortmund, and Rafa Benitez’s new look Napoli side.
