According to English newspaper The Daily Mail, Championship side Birmingham City are interested in securing a loan deal for Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard. The 20 year old impressed for the Red Devils during the club’s preseason tour of Asia and Australia, but unlike fellow reserves standout Adnan Januzaj he hasn’t been able to break into David Moyes’ first team this season.

Birmingham are in dire need of help following their poor start to the season, as the Blues have just one win in their opening seven league matches. The poor start means that manager Lee Clark finds his side sitting in 21st position in the Championship, tied on points with their fellow relegation contenders. Lingard would bring a sense of skill and technique to the Blues midfield, after proving himself as a goalscoring force during United’s preseason.

Lingard is no stranger to the Championship, having played in five league matches for Leicester City during a loan spell last season. If he does complete the switch, he’ll find himself coming up against fellow United reserves player Federico Macheda, who this week completed a loan move to Doncaster Rovers. Macheda’s Doncaster side have just one point more than the struggling Birmingham, meaning both players could find themselves stuck in a relegation battle if Lingard completes the switch.

While the transfer deadline is currently closed, Championship sides have until the 25th of November to complete incoming loan moves.
