Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed that the Citizens will be missing five players due to injury tomorrow. The Premier League runners-up are set to take on Stoke City at the Britannia tomorrow afternoon, but will be without the services of defenders Micah Richards, Gael Clichy, Martin Demichelis, and Vincent Kompany in addition to midfielder David Silva. The good news for City supporters is that Pellegrini also confirmed that Kompany is closing in on a return, and should be fit to take on derby rivals Manchester United on the 22nd of September.

“There are no new injuries, the squad is in good shape except for Micah Richards, David Silva, Gael Clichy, Vincent Kompany who will miss this game,” Pellegrini confirmed to Manchester City’s official website.

“Clichy has a small injury and will miss the game.

“Kompany is OK but it’s a risk for him to play this match and then maybe on Tuesday – two or three more days and he should be 100%.”

The injuries mean that Joleon Lescott will likely partner young center back Matija Nastasic in the back, with Pablo Zabaleta and Aleksandar Kolarov lining up as fullbacks. That back four would be unchanged from the club’s most recent fixture against Hull City, when they won 2-0.

City will be eager to nurse their players back to full health quickly as fixtures are beginning to come thick and fast for the Citizens. After tomorrow’s match, they travel to the Czech Republic to take on Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League before returning to the Eastlands to take on Manchester United. They also face an away trip to take on Aston Villa before the end of September.

  1. Yeah its obviously a disaster Charles! The back line will be Zabaleta, Lescott, Nastasic and Kolarov, any other team would be chuffed with that.

  2. What an utter shambles. Our entire defense is now proven to be injury prone and no one thought me might want to start bringing in better quality players to provide cover?
