Striker names City as title favorites

Sergio Aguero believes City are stronger now

By | 12th September 2013

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has aired his belief that the Citizens are title favorites this season. According to the Argentine, City are “better equipped” than their closest title rivals this season, despite a convincing 11 point margin for Manchester United last season. Aguero referenced the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson and the appointment of David Moyes in his reasoning, although City also have a new manager this season in Manuel Pellegrini.

Aguero also noted that United and Chelsea will likely be the club’s closest challengers, despite significant strengthening from Tottenham following their¬†¬£100 million summer spending spree.

“I’m convinced that we’re stronger than last year,” Aguero said, according to ESPN. “It’s going to be a tight Premier League, but we’ve got a good squad capable of winning. In fact, I would say we are better equipped than both United and Chelsea.

“United are going to be our main rivals, even if they have changed coach. And then there are Chelsea with Jose Mourinho returning. They’ve got a good squad, but so too have Tottenham, and there’s always Liverpool.”

City have already proved their credentials following an impressive start to the season. The Citizens lost in humiliating fashion against newly promoted Cardiff City during the second weekend of the season, but they’ve already fought off a defensive injury crisis to prove their depth. Manuel Pellegrini’s side beat Hull City 2-0 and Newcastle United 4-0 in their other two matches, establishing themselves as an offensive force early on.

Aguero has a few new teammates at the Etihad this season, with Stevan Jovetic, Alvaro Negredo, Jesus Navas, and Fernandinho all arriving at the club this summer.
