New West Ham signing Andy Carroll has picked up an injury to his foot. West Ham are unsure how long the striker will be out as he is already suffering from a heal injury that he picked up in the final match of last season that has prevented him from making an appearance for the club this year. Carroll is yet to see a specialist to determine the severity of the new injury.

“Although it is in the same part of his foot as his previous injury, it is a new injury,” the club said, according to the BBC.

“West Ham United can confirm Andy Carroll suffered an injury to his right foot during his return to full training. There will be no prognosis until he has seen a specialist.”

Carroll joined West Ham on a season-long loan last year before Liverpool agreed a deal with the Hammers to sell the English international for £15 million this summer. Carroll played well for the Hammers last year, scoring 9 goals in 48 appearances and convincing manager Sam Allardyce to bring him back in a permanent deal.

West Ham were looking at bringing in other options up front this summer but failed in their attempts to sign Chelsea duo Romelu Lukaku and Demba Ba as well as out-of-favor Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner. Hammers CEO Karren Brady admitted that the club missed out on the trio in the closing hours of the transfer deadline.
