Chelsea keeper chased by Barcelona

Barcelona are looking to bring in Thibaut Courtois

By | 6th September 2013

According to the Daily MailBarcelona are after Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois. The Spanish club is hoping to make the 21 year old goalie their starting goalkeeper next year since Courtois has not been able to break through to the Chelsea first team due to the play of long-time Blues shot stopper Petr Cech. Cech seems locked in as the starter for Chelsea and at 31 years old could retain that job for a number of years to come. Barcelona are looking for a replacement for 31 year old Spanish keeper Victor Valdes, who has been in the Barcelona system since 1995.

The report suggests that Chelsea may value that player in the range of £30 million after the keeper has spent the past two years performing very well for Barcelona’s La Liga competitors, Atletico Madrid. Barcelona are also reportedly interested in Borussia Moenchengladbach’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who is rated at £10 million. While he may be a cheaper option, Courtois remains the number one transfer target for Barcelona.

Barcelona brought in two major signings with one tipped to be a superstar for the club. Bjoan Krkic joined forward Neymar, who came over from Brazilian club Santos in a £48 million purchase.
