Newcastle seeking Cabaye commitment

Alan Pardew wants to secure Cabaye's status at the club

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew will reach out to Magpies midfielder Yohan Cabaye to seek assurances over the player’s commitment to the club. Cabaye was heavily linked with a move away from Newcastle during the transfer window as he did not feature for the club until after Newcastle had already begun the season.

Arsenal submitted a £10 million bid for the French midfielder but Newcastle called the bid “derisory” and immediately rejected it. Newcastle valued Cabaye at a much higher price, causing Arsenal to end their interest for the player. Cabaye, however, used the opportunity as a chance to try and force his way out of the club through a transfer. Now that he has remained with Newcastle, Pardew revealed he needs to have a talk with the 27 year old in order to make sure everything is settled for the season ahead of the January transfer window.

Pardew knows he will need the player in order to be successful this season and it was a good sign for the manager when Cabaye featured for Newcastle for the first time this season last weekend.

“It was important to get him out there (on the pitch) on Saturday, it will make it easier to move on although there is a lot of talking to be done between now and Aston Villa,” Pardew said, according to Chronicle Live.

“We will speak with Yohan and with his representatives to make sure that we go forward hand-in-hand.”
