Argentine footballing legend Ossie Ardiles has issued high praise for new Tottenham signing Erik Lamela. Lamela moved to White Hart Lane in a big money move from Italian side Roma, and made his debut as a substitute against Arsenal on Sunday. The 21 year old is widely regarded as one of the most talented young players in all of Europe, and brings trickery and flair to Andre Villas Boas’ attack.
“He’s a brilliant player,” the Argentine player told Tottenham’s official website. “Of all the really top players Tottenham have bought for this season, he is the one that excites me the most.
“And not at all becomes he too comes from Argentina! It’s simply because of the way he plays. He’s a different type of player; to my mind a real Spurs player.
“These days you could describe a lot of players as manufactured. But not Lamela. He is a natural – and very talented. He is also extremely mature in his game for his age.
“All in all he is very talented. True, like all the new arrivals, he’ll need a bit of time to adjust to the pace of the Premier League. But he’ll do that and he’ll do it well. It’s great to have him here and I’m excited about the immediate future at Tottenham.”
Lamela is one of seven major signings at White Hart Lane this summer. Andre Villas Boas and Daniel Levy spent over £100 million on new players, bringing in midfielders Paulinho, Christian Eriksen, and Etienne Capoue, wingers Erik Lamela and Nacer Chadli, defender Vlad Chiriches, and striker Roberto Soldado. The club found a good run of form at the beginning of the season prior to Sunday’s defeat against Arsenal in the north London derby, but find themselves as favorites to finish in the top four according to many bookies.
Ossie Ardiles, meanwhile, was most recently named as manager of Machida Zelvia in Japan.
