Everton manager Roberto Martinez has issued high praise for Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku after securing a loan deal for the Belgian. Lukaku spent all of last season on loan with West Bromwich Albion and picked up 17 Premier League goals for the Baggies, a return that Martinez would be thrilled with at Goodison Park this season.

Lukaku’s place at Stamford Bridge came under fire following the signing of former Inter Milan striker Samuel Eto’o, who won the treble with Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho during the pair’s time together at the San Siro. Martinez, however, feels that Lukaku is the complete striker, and is certain that the Belgian will excite the Goodison Park faithful.

“He’s still a young man but he’s got everything,” Martinez told EvertonTV“It’s going to be really exciting to see Romelu developing and growing and if he can do that in an Everton shirt, he’s going to bring a lot of smiles to all our fans. It’s an exciting period for everyone.”

“What he’s achieved already is impressive. Probably the biggest point is that we all feel it is time to kick on and carry on achieving. He had a massive move at a very young age and we all know what he’s capable of doing in the Barclays Premier League.

“He’s not someone that hasn’t had an impact in the league; he’s someone that, at just 20-years-old, has huge potential. He’s part of a very talented generation in Belgian football.”

Lukaku’s arrival gives Roberto Martinez an immediate replacement for striker Victor Anichebe, who was sold to West Bromwich Albion in the dying hours of this summer’s transfer window. The former Wigan Athletic manager also clinched deals for Gareth Barry and James McCarthy following the big money sale of Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini, who completed a move to Manchester United with just minutes to spare before the deadline passed on Monday night.

The Toffees will now hope to recover from a slow start to the season, where they’ve picked up three draws from their opening three matches.
