Manchester United midfielder Nick Powell will play his football this year with Wigan Athletic after the two clubs agreed to a season-long loan on Monday, according to Sky Sports. The 19 year old Englishman joined United last summer from Crewe Alexandra and will now spend a year in the Championship as he continues his development. The promising midfielder made his Premier League and United debut last year against Wigan as he came on as a substitute to score a goal in the club’s 4-0 victory.
United acquired Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini on Monday as the BBC revealed that a £27.5 million deal was completed just in time, reporting that the deal was confirmed 51 minutes after the the deadline ended. After missing out on Cesc Fabregas this summer, new United manager David Moyes was excited about bringing Fellaini to the club. Moyes chased Fellaini and Everton left-back Leighton Baines over the last few weeks and was finally able to conclude the deal for Fellaini while missing out on Baines.
Moyes’ move was overshadowed on Monday by Arsenal’s £42.5 million club record signing of German international and former Real Madrid attacking midfielder, Mesut Ozil. Both managers had taken some criticism for their lack of signings this summer and responded by spending a combined £70 million on the final day of the transfer window.
