Brazilian footballing legend Ronaldo has put more pressure on Real Madrid’s record signing, Gareth Bale, following the Welshman’s move to La Liga. Ronaldo is one of the greatest players to ever wear the white kit of Real Madrid, and points out that at Bale’s price tag the player has a lot of expectation to live up to.

Bale had been embroiled in a summer-long transfer saga with Spurs and Real Madrid, but with just days remaining in the transfer window he sealed an £86 million move, making him £6 million more expensive than the previous record holder, and his new teammate, Cristiano Ronaldo. The Brazilian Ronaldo points out that fans will now be expecting a lot out of the Welsh winger.

“It is only normal that, whenever he puts in a poor performance, the fans will remind him that the club paid €100m for him,” Ronaldo told Radio Barcelona, as translated by

“I can only recommend to Bale that he does not let his price tag become an obsession.”

While Real Madrid signed Bale this summer, their closest La Liga rivals, Barcelona, opted to sign Brazilian superstar Neymar. The striker has already impressed at the Camp Nou, but was signed at a fraction of the price Los Blancos paid for Bale. Both clubs are perfect in their starts to the season, with Barcelona and Real Madrid both winning three out of three matches.

Gareth Bale could make his debut for Real Madrid on the 14th of September against Villareal.
