Liverpool are set to continue their pursuit of French defender Mamadou Sakho as the club is reportedly willing to spend £11 million on the center back from Paris Saint-Germain, according to talkSPORT. The French club has so far been unwilling to sell Sakho but the defender has stated his desire to leave the club, creating speculation that he will complete a move away from PSG this summer.

A Sky Sports source also revealed that it is likely Sakho will end up in England after the defender made it known that he wanted to leave. PSG already boast a strong central defense with Brazilian defenders Alex and Thiago Silva as well as new signing Marquinhos, which does not leave much room for Sakho.

Liverpool have been in the market for defensive reinforcements this summer, having already signed left-back Aly Cissokho on a season-long loan. However, new signing Kolo Toure went down with a groin injury during extra time of Liverpool’s Capital One Cup match this week, having to be taken off on a stretcher. Reds manager Brendan Rodgers is unsure of how long Toure is out but revealed after the match that the injury did not look good, furthering Liverpool’s need to find another center-back.
