Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing former long-time Newcastle United goalkeeper Shay Given, according to The GuardianLiverpool have already brought in 24 year old Simon Mignolet from Premier League club Sunderland this summer in a £9 million signing but manager Brendan Rodgers is looking to strengthen the position by making Given his number two keeper.

Brad Jones is the current number two keeper at Liverpol but Given would provide an experience that the club is lacking between the posts, especially after they sent Pepe Reina to Italian side Napoli earlier this summer. Given currently has three years remaining on his contract with last year’s 15th place finishers Aston Villa but was pushed out of the starting position at the club after Brad Guzan won the starting role last year.

Liverpool are also in the market for a center-back as they have been linked to Paris Saint-Germain defender Mamadou Sakho in recent weeks after bringing in left-back Aly Cissokho on a season-long loan last week. The need for a central defender may have grown even more intense after Kolo Toure was forced to leave Liverpool’s Capital One Cup victory over Notts County on a stretcher on Tuesday during extra time of the match.
