Suarez to make return against United

Manchester United have drawn Liverpool in the Capital One Cup

By | 29th August 2013

Luis Suarez looks set to make his first-team return for Liverpool against Premier League rivals Manchester United. Suarez is finishing up a ten match ban that was given to him towards the end of last year’s campaign for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic. Liverpool drew United away in the third round of the Capital One Cup after they defeated Notts County 4-2 after 120 minutes on Tuesday.

Daniel Sturridge has been absolutely superb in replacement of Uruguayan international Suarez so far this season, scoring four times in three games and netting the match-winner on all three occasions. Sturridge has looked dangerous every time he’s been on the pitch, causing headaches for defenders on and off the ball.

If Sturridge can continue his great run of form once Suarez returns, the pair will be a frightening match-up for Premier League sides as Suarez was close to winning the Golden Boot last season, scoring 23 times in 33 appearances.

Although the Reds saw Notts County come back to even the match with two second half goals on Tuesday, Liverpool has not given up a goal in the Prem through two matches. New goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has been magnificent for the club, saving a late penalty to secure three points in Liverpool’s season opener.
