Magpies linked with double striker swoop

Newcastle have reignited their interest in Gomis

Newcastle United have been linked with a double swoop for strikers Bafetimbi Gomis and Demba Ba, according to the Daily Mail. The Magpies had a fee agreed with Lyon earlier this summer for Gomis, but saw the deal fall through following a bid from Ligue 1 club Marseille, who were then the subject of a complain from Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas.

The report indicates that Newcastle are set to reignite their interest in the French international, and coupled with their interest in bringing Chelsea’s Demba Ba back to St. James’ Park, Alan Pardew may find himself with a wealth of striking options before the close of the transfer window.

Ba has been deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge, failing to nail down a spot in new manager Jose Mourinho’s starting eleven. The Senegalese international is competing with the likes of Fernando Torres and Romelu Lukaku for playing time, but saw Mourinho opt to start without an out and out striker in Monday’s match against Manchester United, instead starting midfielder Andre Schurrle in an advanced position.

Newcastle have been known to be looking for strikers all summer, but have only signed Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy on a season long loan deal.
