Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that striker Lukas Podolski is out for at least three weeks following a hamstring injury against Fenerbahce last night. The German’s injury has shed light on yet another injury crisis at the Emirates, with Podolski now joining Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Mikel Arteta in the physio’s room, with Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere also picking up slight knocks against the Turkish side.
“We paid a heavy price on the injury front because we lost Podolski, he’s definitely out for 21 days,” Wenger confirmed to reporters after last night’s 2-0 win over Fenerbahce, according to talkSPORT.
“I don’t know how bad Ramsey is. I don’t know how Wilshere responds. We have to check that tomorrow morning.”
Podolski’s impending three week absence leaves the club with just Frenchmen Olivier Giroud and Yaya Sanogo up top, with the latter player lacking any sort of top flight experience after joining the club on a free transfer this summer. The Gunners face their biggest test of the season this Sunday as they take on high-flying Tottenham in the first north London derby of the season.
Arsene Wenger has just days left in this summer’s transfer window to bring in reinforcements, although the club are yet to agree any deals over new players. Young striker Yaya Sanogo remains the club’s only signing of the summer following his free transfer.
