Real Madrid consider Suarez swoop

Metro links Real Madrid with an approach for Luis Suarez

After a summer filled with uncertainty regarding Liverpool striker Luis Suarez’s future, the Reds now face yet another battle to keep the Uruguay international at Anfield after it emerged that Real Madrid are preparing a fresh bid for the hit-man and will not back down until a transfer is complete.

English media outlet Metro is reporting that although Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that a deal to bring Suarez to the Emirates was dead, it appears that the La Liga runners-up are keen on signing the forward and will have to fork over significantly more than Arsenal’s rejected £40 million offer if they are serious about bringing the player to Madrid.

Suarez had been a target of Arsenal for the duration of the current transfer window, with the striker attempting to orchestrate a move away from Liverpool after it emerged that Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers had promised the player the option to leave if the club failed to qualify for Champions League football. However, Suarez has since realized that a move to the north London club was all but gone, paving the way for an apology to both Rodgers and his teammates.

Reports out of Spain suggest that Los Blancos are preparing a concrete bid for the 26-year-old in preparation of forward Karim Benzema’s potential departure, having already seen fellow striker Gonzalo Higuain transfer to Serie A side Napoli less than a month ago.

Rodgers remains adamant that Suarez will stay

However, Rodgers has maintained that despite media sources linking Suarez with a move to the Bernabeu, the Urugayan is not going anywhere in the near future.

“I’m sure there will be plenty of activity in these last number of days. It is what it is and we will deal with it like we have during the summer,” Rodgers told the Guardian.

“It’s very difficult at this time (for a Suárez bid to succeed). We are trying to get one or two more quality players in through the door. If we lose Luis at this stage it would be difficult to replace him.

“There might have been a point a few months ago where there was time to do it but with 11 days to go it would be difficult to replace him,” he added.

Benzema move to Arsenal in the works

Since conceding defeat in the Suarez saga, Arsenal have shifted their attention to Benzema, who showed just what he is worth during Real’s phenomenal preseason schedule, finding the net eight times and helping the team win the International Champions Cup tournament over Chelsea.

Benzema’s departure would mean that Real’s only true forward would be twenty-year-old Alvaro Morata, who – although played sensationally for the Spanish under-21 side this summer at the European Championships in Israel – has very limited first team experience and might not be able to carry the burden of being Real’s front-man for an entire season.

If Benzema’s move to north London were to in fact take place, Real would find themselves in a difficult bind to sign a world-class striker, especially after the strong stance Liverpool owner John Henry has taken over the club’s refusal to part ways with Suarez at any given price.
