Manchester United have reached out to Southampton to enquire about the availability of youngster Luke Shaw, according to the Daily Express. After United manager David Moyes had a £28 million joint bid rejected by Roberto Martinez that included Everton left-back Leighton Baines, the new boss is reportedly looking at other options that he can sign this summer.
Moyes is looking to add depth to a position that currently sees 32 year old Patrice Evra as the number one choice. It is believed that Moyes may return with individual bids for the two Everton players, Marouane Fellaini and Baines, but may not be able to pry them away from the Toffees.
Manager Roberto Martinez spoke out following the bid from United to reveal that he was insulted by how low the former Everton manager valued the two players to put in such a low bid for them, calling the bid a waste of time, meaning it may be very difficult for Moyes to be able to secure Baines at this point.
Turning to Shaw would not be too much of a step down as the 18 year old is considered one of England’s brightest prospects. He is already featuring regularly for Southampton, who are now in their second year in the Premier League.
