Arsenal are likely to face competition for Sevilla midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia, as French outfit Monaco have apparently entered the race for the 20-year-old’s signature, according to the Daily Express. The Gunners reportedly made an enquiry to the Spanish side about the price of the midfielder, but were told that the London side must meet the youngster’s release-clause in order secure his signature.

However, according to the Daily Express report, the French club have made a £13 million bid for the 20-year-old, far less than his £17 million release-clause, but Monaco hope that Sevilla will negotiate with the French side. Chelsea, Manchester United, Juventus, and Real Madrid had all previously been linked with the holding midfielder earlier this summer, but were told the same as Arsenal.

The defensive midfielder role has been deemed a position of need by the Gunners this summer, having been linked to multiple players at that position this summer, but it is also believed the London club could be interested because of Kondogbia’s ability to play center back and even left back, which he did for his former club Lens.

Kondogbia signed for Sevilla last summer in a €3 million move from French side Lens, and instantly became a starter for the Spanish side. The defensive midfielder made 31 La Liga appearances for the club last season, even scoring once.
