Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is reportedly keen on bringing in reinforcements up front regardless of forward Luis Suarez’s decision regarding a potential move to Premier League rivals Arsenal.

The Uruguayan international made his desire to leave public after revealing that the club promised him the option to leave Anfield should they fail to qualify for the Champions League last season. The Reds not only missed out on a Champions League berth, but also on any chance of European football after a disappointing seventh place finish in the Premier League last season.

Rodgers is entering his second year as Liverpool manager and has indicated his desire to provide depth to his squad.

“We’re always looking to evolve the squad, to improve the group. We still have some business to do to bring in a few more players. By the end of August I hope that we will have a squad that will be ready to compete and challenge for the top four,” Rodgers said, according to Goal.com.

“We need one or two players to cover positions where we’re a little bit short, and also probably looking to bring in maybe one or two in the attacking areas. We’ll see how that goes.

“We did very well in the early part of the window, when we got four players in – which I’m extremely happy about. If we can add a few more that would be really good for us.”

Liverpool’s goal for the upcoming season will be to break back into the top four and qualify for the Champion’s League, with Rodgers indicating as such.

“Our main target is to progress from where we were last season. The measure will always be Champions League for Liverpool, there’s no disguising that. That will always be the case and I believe we have a really good chance of doing that,” Rodgers said, according to Goal.com.

Liverpool have already brought in a number of players who will be contributing to the first team, including new starting goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, attacker Iago Aspas, winger Luis Alberto, and former Arsenal and Manchester City defender Kolo Toure.
