Arsenal striker Gervinho has today finalized a move to Italian side Roma ahead of the start to the season. The striker did not have a very successful year with the Gunners last season and as such been shipped out to another club, according to Arsenal’s official website.

Gervinho signed from Lille in 2011 and never cemented a place in the Arsenal squad. While his speed and direct play is dangerous, his ability to finish in front of net was always lacking during his time in England, as he only scored 9 Premier League goals over the two full seasons he spent at the Emirates.

The 26 year old Ivory Coast international began last season in scintillating form, scoring five goals in his first seven appearances for the club. His hot start quickly faded and he fell into the shadows for Arsene Wenger’s club.

Arsenal was sure to wish him well on his next journey, speaking out on their official site to bid the forward goodbye.

“Everyone at Arsenal would like to thank Gervinho for his contribution to the Club and wish him well for his future career,” said Arsenal’s official website.

Gervinho will head to a Roma side that finished sixth last season as the Italians will look to break back into the top of Serie A, as the club has already added 13 players this summer.
