Tottenham manager Andre Villas Boas has revealed that the sale of Clint Dempsey was made for financial reasons as the Portuguese manager looks to strengthen his squad ahead of the new season. Spurs have already welcomed both Paulinho and Nacer Chadli to White Hart Lane this summer, but continue their rebuilding after narrowly missing out on a Champions League spot at the end of last season.

According to Villas Boas, the side is sad to see the American leave the club after scoring 12 goals for the club during his only year in north London. The former Chelsea manager admitted that the move was made for financial reasons, citing the need to raise funds for more transfer activity before the summer’s transfer window slams shut on September 2nd.

“The team is sad to see Clint depart because of his character within the team,” Villas Boas told reporters according to the Metro.

“In the end we had to do some business to help finance some deals in the transfer market and I think the agreement was in everybody’s interest, but the player will be sadly missed.”

Dempsey has already revealed his excitement about returning to Major League Soccer following his unveiling with the Seattle Sounders. Dempsey will be hoping to further impress national team manager Jurgen Klinsmann ahead of next summer’s World Cup in Brazil, where he’ll likely team up with Premier League players Tim Howard, Brek Shea, and new Sunderland signing Jozy Altidore.

Tottenham lost their first friendly of the post-Dempsey era against Monaco as they slumped to a 5-2 defeat by the high-spending French side.

Tottenham are in great shape with or without Bale (Watch this space) In my opinion I don't expect there to be 2 clubs that can finish above them (Champions this season).
    but keep it to yourself!

  2. It's obvious that spurs appear confused, immediate impact players like Dempsey are put in the team as a joker, there are players that offer no advantage but recurrent mediocrity left in the team, spurs waste all the time on the press and on controversies,
Leading them to loose their first 4 games or draw win able games and then result to find stupid excuses and blame it on injuries .
