With news coming out this morning that Queens Park Rangers have signed Burnley striker Charlie Austin, QPR owner Tony Fernandes has taken to Twitter to welcome the forward to the club.

Tony Fernandes became the majority owner of the club in August of 2011 three months after QPR was promoted into the Premier League, and has been trying to make intelligent signings now that they have been relegated to the Championship. Austin was signed to a three year deal with QPR for an undisclosed fee.

Austin had attracted the attention of several clubs this summer after having a very consistent season last year with Burnley and an impressive two years in total with the Championship side, totaling 40 goals in 77 matches. Austin was trusted by manager Sean Dyche, who became boss of the Burnley on the 30th of October last year, as Dyche started him in every Championship match the club played in.

The striker spoke out about his excitement to join Queen’s Park Rangers, noting his desire to put put the ball in the back of the net for his new side.

This is a really exciting time for me and I can’t wait to pull on the QPR shirt for the first time,” Austin said to QPR’s official website. “I’ll come in, give my all and hopefully score the goals that ensure we have a memorable season.”

QPR manager Harry Redknapp spoke out regarding Austin’s goal scoring ability and the striker’s chances of helping Rangers make it back into the Premiership.

“Charlie’s an out-and-out goalscorer and we’re delighted to have him here,” Redknapp told QPR’s official website. “He’s scored goals wherever he’s played throughout his career and I’m very confident he’ll take his game to the next level with us.

“I’ve got no doubt that if we give him the right service he will score a lot of goals for us. He’s young, he’s hungry and he’s up for the challenge of helping us get out of this division.”

With rumors linking current QPR striker Loic Remy with a loan to Newcastle this year, Redknapp will have insurance should that deal go through. Austin is a talented player who has the ability to play a pivotal role in getting QPR promoted and making owner Tony Fernandes a happy man.
