During an interview with Goal.com, Diego Forlan spoke about Uruguayan teammate Luis Suarez’s on-going transfer saga over a move to Arsenal, saying that Suarez could be the missing piece Arsenal need to win a title. The former Manchester United forward was confident in his compatriot’s ability and hopeful over his prospect of moving to the Emirates and what it could do to boost the club.

“If they (Arsenal) manage to sign Luis, then I think, with the players they already have, they would be serious title contenders again. Only Luis knows what his plans are but he would be a great signing for Arsenal,” the former Manchester United forward said to Goal.com.

Arsenal have already seen two bids rejected for the controversial Suarez and may try again before the transfer window closes. Forlan believes that the addition of  the dangerous striker could be just what an already strong Gunners side needs in order to once again claim the prestigious Premier League trophy, something they have not been able to achieve since the 2003-04 season.

The 34-year old went on to comment on the club’s lack of star power at the forward position, saying that Suarez could be this squad’s Thierry Henry and lead the club to Premier League glory.

“Of course, Arsenal are a very strong team but, for the last years, they have not been able to compete with Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea for the title,” he continued to reporters, according to Goal.com.

“They have had very good players but have maybe lacked that one special player who you need to win a league as strong as the Premier League.

“United have had Wayne Rooney and City have had Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez but Arsenal have struggled since Thierry Henry left.”

Suarez has already proven to the Premier League that he has the capabilities to be a reliable goal scorer, netting 34 times over the past two seasons in the Prem. Besides Robin Van Persie, who made the switch to Old Trafford last summer from Arsenal, the Gunners have not had any lethal strikers consistently performing at the highest level since the departure of the famed Thierry Henry.
