After dominating the Football League Championship, Cardiff City appear close to signing French midfielder Etienne Capoue on a permanent deal, according to Sky Sports.  Toulouse chairman Olivier Sadran has confirmed reports over interest for the wanted Frenchmen and has named the Premier League newboys as the favorites for his signature. The Bluebirds are set to beat out the competition for the defensive minded after seeing an £8.6 million bid accepted, but need to come to terms with the ambitious player before completing the deal.

“Now the clubs interested in Etienne have to know we will not accept any offer inferior to the one from Cardiff,” Sadran told L’Equipe, as translated by Sky Sports.

Malky Mackay would seemingly love to see the 25-year old anchor man join his squad in order to add depth and versatility to the newly promoted side. The Bluebirds boss is looking to make his second signing of the transfer window after signing forward Andreas Cornelius on a club record fee earlier this month.

Cardiff, though, is not the only Premier League team connected to the French national, with Arsenal and Tottenham also reportedly on the trail, along with relegated Queens Park Rangers. QPR were close to signing the 5-time capped player, but saw a bid rejected back in the January transfer window, reported Sky Sports.

Capoue is uncertain where his future lies and is currently stalling on Cardiff’s offer with recent reports out of the Irish Mirror claiming his ambitions are focused on joining a top European club.
