English newspaper The Daily Star reports that their sources have knowledge that Everton could be tempted into selling defender Leighton Baines if they receive an offer of around £18 million. The Toffees have already rejected a bid from Premier League champions Manchester United, with the proposed fee of £12 million deemed too low by the club.
Baines has been linked with the Red Devils all summer since seeing his former boss David Moyes jump ship to Old Trafford, but up to this point Roberto Martinez and Everton’s upper management have remained firm in their desire to keep hold of the England left back. Baines is one of the best left backs in the Premier League, and his marauding runs and deadly freekicks make him one of the few players capable of replacing a player of Patrice Evra’s caliber.
According to the report from The Daily Star, David Moyes has made Baines one of his priority signings for this summer, suggesting that the Red Devils may be making an improved bid before the transfer window closes. If Baines joins the club, it’s been rumored by ESPN that Patrice Evra could seek a move back to France with his previous club, Monaco, who are back in Ligue 1 and splashing the cash under new Russian ownership.
