New Manchester United boss David Moyes saw his side slump to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Singha All Stars in the first match of their Asian preseason tour. The Red Devils never looked like winning, as the Thailand side grabbed an unlikely victory over the Premier League champions.
Moyes’s side were admittedly missing many of their biggest stars, such as Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie, but starting eleven hopefuls like Danny Welbeck and Alexander Buttner failed to impress. Welbeck is the side’s only striker in the squad for the start of the preseason tour, but missed two very clear opportunities in the final 15 minutes of the match, perhaps putting added pressure on Moyes to keep hold of Wayne Rooney.
One of the most encouraging signs for Moyes was the impressive debut for former Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha. The winger came on for the final 30 minutes of the match and showed off his trickery as he whipped in crosses from the right flank. The winger came closest to scoring for the Red Devils, as a late curling shot from 18 yards out slammed off the post and back into play.
Youth prospect Adnan Januzaj saw his stock rise further with an extremely impressive display, as the Kosovo-born player was involved in most of United’s attacking efforts, linking up well with his teammates.
United next take on the A-League All Stars a week from today.
