Swansea City are set to agree a £6 million deal for Liverpool midfielder Jonjo Shelvey, reports Sky Sports. The midfielder has impressed on limited occasions at Anfield, but looks close to sealing a deal to Premier League side Swansea City as the club and player are discussing personal terms and arranging for the player’s medical.

Shelvey is still only 21 years old, and began his career with Charlton Athletic. He set the club record at Charlton for the youngest player, turning out for the first time less than two months after turning 16.

The club’s decision to let Shelvey go is a clear indication that manager Brendan Rodgers believes he’s surplus to requirements, as the center of midfield is occupied by captain Steven Gerrard, Lucas, Jordan Henderson, and January signing Coutinho.

Swansea, meanwhile, will be thrilled at picking up a promising English international, with Shelvey having already turned out for the Three Lions’ senior squad. The Swans had an impressive campaign in the Premier League last season, and continue to strengthen following the re-signing of Jonathan De Guzman on loan.

Liverpool have already strengthened with the signings of Luis Alberto, Kolo Toure, and goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.
