According to reports from ESPN sources, Manchester United may be set for a change at left back as Patrice Evra opens the door for a return to Monaco. Per the reports, a source close to the club revealing that negotiations over a transfer have already been going on for several weeks.
The news comes after the revelation that new boss David Moyes submitted a transfer bid for Everton defender Leighton Baines, before quickly seeing the Toffees turn that bid down. Baines has consistently been one of the best left backs in the Premier League, and with the World Cup fast approaching he may consider Old Trafford a bigger stage as he aims to nail down a spot in the Three Lions starting eleven.
Evra, meanwhile, has been a mainstay in United’s squad since joining the club from Monaco, but at 32 years of age he could be looking for one last move. The report did indicate, however, that a deal would only be struck if the Premier League champions can agree a deal for Baines, suggesting that there is still a high probability that the Frenchman will be at United come the start of the season.
Moyes may just feel that Baines, who is four years younger than Evra, has more to offer moving forward, especially considering the dipping form of Evra over the past two seasons. Stay tuned for the latest developments in these transfer stories and much more!
