Manchester United picked up yet another clean sheet as they ran out 1-0 winners against West Ham United yesterday at Old Trafford, and right back Rafael put in yet another Man of the Match-worthy performance. The Brazilian has arguably been one of the Red Devils top performers this season, and Rafael’s teammates once again had high words of praise for the youngster following his performance against Sam Allardyce’s side.

“He has progressed every year he has been here,” central midfielder Michael Carrick told Manchester United’s television channel, MUTV. “He came across at a very young age and it was a big change from Brazil and what he was used to.

“Every season he has got better and better. He has played nearly every game this season and has been terrific. There is still more to come from him, he is still learning the game and is still improving, so it is great for him and he is having a good time.”

Rafael, along with striker Robin van Persie, has been one of United’s most consistent performers this season, and another excellent defensive display has left the Red Devils at the top of the Premier League table.

Evans continues defensive role

One of the biggest surprise packages in the United backline this season has been the sensational form of Northern Ireland international Jonny Evans. Evans has been deputizing for the injured Nemanja Vidic, and joined Michael Carrick in praising Rafael.

“He’s been outstanding all season,” Evans told the official United website. “There’s not really been anybody challenging for his right-back position but he’s done fantastic.

“With his energy, he really sets the tone for the rest of the players. He’s a credit to himself.

“People might have thought it would be tough for him with his brother going away but he’s got his head down, he’s working hard and he’s going to be one of the best right-backs in the world, no doubt about that.”
