Revs acquire former All-Star via allocation

Colombian international joins already talented midfield corps in New England

Monday afternoon the New England Revolution announced that they acquired two-time MLS All-Star Juan Toja through the MLS Allocation process, after Toja officially signed with the league last week.

Toja will join the club upon the receipt of his International Transfer Certificate and U.S. P-1 Visa, and will occupy an international player slot on the roster. Toja provides another offensive threat to a midfield that already consists of US international Benny Feilhaber, Lee Nguyen, and rookie Kelyn Rowe.

The Colombian international first joined MLS in 2007 with FC Dallas. He was named an All-Star in both of his seasons in Dallas, before transferring to Europe to join the Romanian side Steaua Bucharest.

“We’re pleased to add a player of Juan’s skill and experience through the Allocation Process, and we’re looking forward to getting Juan in with the team as soon as possible,” said GM Michael Burns in an official team press release.

He added: “He’s not only played in MLS and is familiar with the league, but he’s also been very successful in MLS.”

The addition of Toja now leaves the Revs with an abundance of midfielders, and the Revs have admitted that they have already been contacted by other clubs about a possible deal.

Whether the Revs quickly make a move to ship Toja out, or decide to trade another one of their offensive midfielders, the lack of quality and depth at the defense position could force the Revs into making a move.
