Bengtson to build off Olympic success

Honduran striker hopes to start producing for the Revs

Since being acquired by the Revolution in early July, Revs striker Jerry Bengtson has traveled back to his home in Honduras, made trips to Chicago and Miami, and made the long trek to London to represent his country at the Olympics.

All that travel has undoubtedly taken a toll on the Honduran striker, but Bengtson believes with all that in the rear-view mirror, he can finally settle in with the Revs and start producing at Gillette Stadium.

“It’s been difficult,” Bengtson admitted in an article on MLSsoccer.com. “It’s been a lot of traveling and I’ve only had a few games here to get to know my teammates. But now we’re working really hard on getting our movements down together, understanding how they want me to play and how my teammates are playing around me. I expect to improve quickly now that I’m here and I can spend some quality time with the team.”

Bengtson will be remembered as one of the standouts of the Olympic tournament, scoring three goals for Honduras, including the decisive goal in Honduras’ 1-0 victory over Spain.

“It was a great thing for me to score three goals [at the Olympics], but I’m sad that I haven’t been able to step right in and start scoring goals for New England,” said Bengtson.

He added: “But now that I’m back in with the team and working hard, that’s my goal, to come in and try to score goals for the Revolution.”

The Revolution travel to Columbus on Saturday to face the Crew, with both clubs in dire need of three points to remain in the Eastern Conference playoff race.
