American set for move

Maurice Edu closes in on English deal

By | 20th August 2012

United States international Maurice Edu appears set to move to England as he closes in on signing a deal with Championship outfit Ipswich Town. Edu is currently contracted to Glasgow Rangers, but Ally McCoist has admitted a move could be imminent – despite pen not hitting paper just yet.

“There is nothing at the moment,” McCoist told Sky Sports News.

“As far as I know, there has been an offer on the table from Ipswich which, as yet, he hasn’t accepted.

“He trained this morning. I’m just hopeful something can be resolved sooner rather than later.”

Edu is an extremely talented central midfielder, and his arrival at Ipswich would give him a much bigger stage to perform on in front of some of England’s top clubs.

Dempsey still searching for a move

Edu’s most notable international colleague, Clint Dempsey, is also clamoring for a move away from his current side. Dempsey reportedly refused to appear for Fulham during Saturday’s season opener, and continue to be linked with a move to a bigger club.

Liverpool have strongly been linked with the American all summer, but as of yet nothing concrete is on the table.
