United captain: “We learned a lot”

Nemanja Vidic and company prepare for the new season

By | 7th August 2012

Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic is gearing up for the new Premier League season, and insists that his United teammates learned a lot last season as they finished in second behind neighbors Manchester City.

The Serbian was a huge loss for the Red Devils last season as he suffered a season-ending injury, but his return has made Sir Alex Ferguson’s side title challengers once again. The arrival of new signing Shinji Kagawa has heavily strengthened Ferguson’s midfield, and an improved Wayne Rooney is raring to go for the new season.

“We had some young players play a lot of games last season and they’ll have learned a lot. We all learned,” said Vidic.

“In Europe we’ve had so much success in recent years – we’ve had three finals, a semi-final – and maybe we relaxed a bit last season.

“We were punished and we can’t allow that to happen again. We had a few injuries last season too. I hope everyone can stay fit this season.

“The young players can learn from last year, so I’m confident we’ll be better this year.”
