With rumors swirling about a possible return to Major League Soccer, a source close to Carlos Bocanegra told MLSsoccer.com on Thursday that the American defender will remain in Europe, for at least the 2012 season.
Just a few weeks ago, while Bocanegra was visiting the States to take part in MLB All-Star festivities, Boca spoke candidly about a possible return, stating he was ’100% considering a return to MLS.’
One of the clubs linked to the US captain was the New England Revolution, who just traded away their captain, Shalrie Joseph, to Chivas USA on Wednesday. The trade gave the Revs more flexibility to take on a larger contract, while also freeing up a DP slot.
Initial thoughts after the move had fans dreaming up a Boca to New England headline, but those dreams were abruptly put to rest.
Reports today are linking Boca with clubs in three different European countries. One of the interested clubs resides in France, where the US captain has twice played in his past.
With his future still undecided, one expected move in the near future is a call into the US national camp, ahead of a friendly match against Mexico on August 15th.

I am a graduate student at George Washington University and an avid soccer fan-I have combined the two interests to compile a soccer survey!
It is just 26 questions so its very quick.
The questions try to get a global view of why people support the teams they do and how committed they are to their favorite team.
