Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo has backed new Tottenham Hotspur boss Andre Villas-Boas to succeed in his second stint in the Barclays Premier League.
Di Matteo served as the assistant manager to Villas-Boas at Chelsea last season and following the Portuguese’s premature sacking in March, the Italian took over as interim boss to guide the Blues to FA Cup and UEFA Champions League glory.
Such massive accomplishments led Di Matteo to be confirmed as the permanent Chelsea boss last month but more recently, it has been AVB who is stealing the headlines again.
Having maintained his silence for weeks following his Blues exit, Villas-Boas has returned with a bang to English football and the former FC Porto boss has expressed his delight at the Spurs squad he will be inheriting.
Amid intense debate over AVB’s credentials to succeed in the English top flight, Di Matteo has tipped his former Chelsea colleague to prove himself this time around.
“I wish AVB the best of luck, he’s a very good manager and coach and I’m sure he’ll be a success at Spurs,” Di Matteo said in an interview with ChelseaFC.com.
Di Matteo’s Blues will visit Villas-Boas’ Spurs in a highly anticipated match to be played at White Hart Lane on October 20.
