Spurs stars discuss New York trip

Tottenham squad excited about Red Bulls rematch

By | 27th June 2012

Tottenham Hotspur are eagerly preparing for their summer preseason tour to the United States next month, which will feature matches against MLS Cup holders LA Galaxy and Premier League rivals Liverpool FC.

However, the fixture that is perhaps most rapidly gaining momentum is a rematch of last season’s 2-1 win over the New York Red Bulls, in which Arsenal legend Thierry Henry scored for the MLS outfit.

The match at the Red Bulls Arena will be played on July 31, a week after the Spurs open their tour in Los Angeles and only three days after they square off against the Reds in Baltimore on July 28.

Fatigue will undoubtedly be a concern and as Gareth Bale jokes in the video below, the humidity the team experienced in New York last summer ended up being quite a work out for even these Premier League athletes in peak physical condition.

Also in the video below, Tottenham’s American goalkeeper Brad Friedel chimes in about the different playing style between English football and the MLS, while striker Jermain Defoe and Younes Kaboul discuss their excitement at a fixture that is poised to offer a differences compared to their usual routine.
