Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admits that going four games without a win is frustrating but believes that a top-four finish remains achievable as long as the Gunners make an early impact on their matches.
Last night’s goalless draw at Bolton left Wenger’s side in seventh place, five points behind fourth-place Chelsea and another seven behind bitter cross-town rivals Tottenham Hotspur in third.
Wenger was in defiant mood in his post-match press conference, choosing to focus on the remaining 15 fixtures rather than the club’s recent struggles.
However, even the optimistic Frenchman made it clear that his players must strive for an early advantage in their forthcoming fixtures.
“What I feel is missing at the moment, and in the game tonight, is taking our chances early in the game. That could have changed the whole game because they would have had to come out,” Wenger told Arsenal’s official website.
He added: “They (Bolton) defended very well and as long as we didn’t score, they were not in a position where they had to change their tactics.
“In the end, you could see as well that we had one day less recovery than Bolton and that we had given a lot in the second half against Aston Villa to come back and win the game. We had a few heavy legs to finish the game.”
When asked to express his feelings on falling so far behind their rivals and dropping out of the top six positions after picking up only a single point in their last four fixtures, Wenger responded with composure.
The manager explained: “We give our best in every game and that is what we did tonight. Journalists always talk if you are concerned but it is about the game you have played just now.
“You do not go in after a game and think it is the most difficult period. We had even more difficult periods when we won championships and went six games without a win.
“There is a long way to go and I am confident that we can come back, yes. We have gone through a difficult period where we lost the three championship games, but we could have won them as well.”
Next up, the Gunners play Blackburn at home in Saturday’s early kick-off at Emirates.

i dont know what the hell with arsenal transfer policy. buy young talent player and then loan to other club. when they got senior experience, big club like barca and man city buy them. this all bull shit.
Those wenger always excuse are one given by a confused manager, why continue playing tired and ineffective players and blame it on the other team had more recovery time.Fininshing forth is in his own dream. This is a mind table team, cant finish better than position 7.This manager should just go back to where he came from, everyone is tired of his excuses.
If he forked out 20million pounds and lands eden hazard or 10 million for podolski ( both players can change a game in 10 mins) we would have beaten bolton and clinched a win…
Wenger is out of ideas
So why does Arsene continue to play the same tired players? If there are not players rested for Blackburn out first 11 risk injury and there will come the clearest admission that Wenger does not trust his “Big Squad”.
Its time for Wenger to go ! the guy has lost it. I no longer believe in his transfer policies, Eisfeld will just be like another amaury bischoff. Ive said it all along we’re not gonna finish in the top 4 this season and thats becoming true.
