Podolski in no rush for Premier League
Gunners target not focused on moving | German forward Lukas Podolski, who has been linked consistently with Arsenal in recent weeks, has chosen to focus on his future in the Bundesliga rather than talking up a move to the English top flight.
The 26-year old Podolski appeared on Arsenal’s radar in this month’s transfer window after disagreements with FC Cologne’s management late last year.
However, before any move can materialize, Podolski must recover from an injury setback that has ruled him out for at least a month.
The Germany international picked up the ankle ligament injury during this weekend’s 4-1 defeat at home to Schalke – a match in which he had also opened the scoring for Cologne.
In an interview with Bild after the match, Podolski expressed disappointment at being sidelined and admitted that his top priority now is to quickly return to full fitness in preparation for this summer’s Euro 2012.
“It is bitter enough that it is the same injury all over again and that I am going to miss the coming games,” said Podolski, who knows that his relegation-threatened club needs him on the field.
He added: “I have got to be professional and deal with it and then see to it that I get really fit again quickly. I am not setting myself any targets.”
While Podolski may not be setting himself any targets, Cologne would want him to be back for the derby match against Bayer Leverkusen in a few weeks.
As for the Gunners, they may need to look elsewhere in case Arsene Wenger decides to make a last-minute move for a proven scorer to back-up skipper Robin van Persie.
